Dear Future Students,
These next couple of weeks we are bombarded with finals and AP's, so I'm going to keep this somewhat brief. I really enjoyed psych this year. It is extremely interesting; unlike other classes where the topic isn't interesting, i came into psych everyday and learned something that i enjoyed. I've got 2 large pieces of advice for students taking psych next year. First off, DO NOT EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CRAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is just too much information. However, you're not hung out to dry Ms. Halfen provides you with study sheets so instead of learning 150 words in one night you are learning 10 a day.
Now the 2nd thing is focus on your vocab, but don't forget the application. There is a lot o vocab in psych, I think the combined Quizlet I made had 635 terms, but it is more important to know how the words work instead of what they mean. For example if you know the amygdala controls the four F's, but not a scenario involved you're screwed. Like if you're given thi question from an AP " Marlon was in a very unfortunate automobile
accident during which he sustained an injury to his head. Days later when his family was with him in
the hospital room, they had a conference with his neurologist, who informed him
that there was some brain injury. Pretend that you are the neurologist, and
discuss what functional impairments might result from an injury to the
following parts of the brain" and can't explain why you aren't gonna have success.
We did a couple projects in psych, but my favorite would have to be the emotion soundtrack. I enjoy listening to music, and this project incorporated creativity and psychology all into one. You had to pick 10 emotions, pick a song that related to them, and write about how they connected.
There wasn't a lot I think Ms. Halfen should leave out for next year. The only thing I think she should change is to make the content digs partners because 4 people makes it more tempting to split the work up. It would also force the people working to learn more of the material.Other than those things really enjoyed Psych and i highly recommend it to anybody considering it next year.
